Sa page2 Sports in Review 1983-84 Douglas Golfers second in by Martin Hemerik The Douglas College Golf Team shot_a blistering final round to come from behind and take second place at the Totem Conference Golf Tour- nament held at the Rivershore golf coursein Kamloops this past weekend. Leading the way for Doug- las was Garry Cusson, who shot an 81 Saturday and a 77 Sunday, to place second in individual scoring. The Rivershore Golf Course donated their course free of charge to the colleges for the tournament. It is located on the bank of the Thompson River and is the second long- est course in the province at 7,008 yards. (And it is certain- ly not the easiest.) Although it is a par 72, the course is rated at a 74. The team was composed of Gary Cusson, Les Somogyi, Marc Jinnouchi, Martin Hem- erik and coached by Gert Van first tee for the 10 AM tee off perature was ‘difficult at times. Britis Niekerk. They departed the college at 8 AM on Friday September 30 and arrived in downtown Kamloops at 3 PM. After dropping off the luggage the team headed off for a practice round, (at the course that is!). Gary Cus- son and Marc Jinnouchi shot an 81 and 87 respectively. Les Somogyi saw a lot of sand during those first eighteen holes, he shot a 94. As a matter of fact the only person who saw more sand was coach Gert Van Niekerk, who was hitting the bunkers with clock- like regularity. Martin Hem- a lot of Kamloops and a lot of erik, on the other hand saw a. the province in general. The sky was overcast at the beginning of the round however it quickly cleared. Sunny Skies and warm tem- peratures were the order for the rest of the day. Although the Douglas team were late getting. out of the hotel for the final round coach Van Niekerk made up for lost time by doing his Starsky and Hutch imitation on the roads. For the final eighteen holes Douglas stormed back with a vengeance. Les Somogyi was the big difference as he shot an 81, bettering his previous score by 13 strokes. Gary shot a red hot 77.
