eee Ministry of Education 34 -85 Issued 85-04-02 for immediate release VICTORIA--Education Minister Jack Heinrich today announced a $5.8 million fund to finance college and institute projects which contribute to economic development in their areas. The fund represents close to half of the education ministry's $12.6 million colleges and institutes adjustment Program announced in the recent budget. Heinrich said the funding is designed to encourage colleges and institutes to develop innovative and imaginative training programs. “There's a tremendous wealth of talent and potential within our network of colleges and institutes,” Heinrich said. “I intend to tap that reservoir of expertise in determining how to allocate this $5.8 million." The funding total was announced by the Minister in a breakdown of the $12.6 million adjustment program. Heinrich said $1.4 million will be earmarked for grants to help operations of satellite centres in interior colleges, $3 million will go to help develop new, high-priority programs and to buy equipment to improve productivity, and $2.4 million will be set aside to help maintain levels of service at the colleges and institutes.
