Saeed SSS By Stephanie Trembath, Life and Style Editor enerally, when girls travel or go on vacation it’s typical to bring an extra-large suitcase in anticipation of purchasing new clothes, shoes or other superfluous paraphernalia while on excursions. I have a friend who is currently living in China, and she brought two entire empty suitcases with her to fill before she returns home. When I visited England I was forced to throw clothes out to make room for new items I bought, which didn’t bode well with my sister as I tossed out a few of the t-shirts she lent me. However, in addition to splurging while I am away on clothes I cannot find in Vancouver, I also find it necessary to go shopping for an entire new wardrobe to wear throughout my trip. This usually means that I find a credit card bill as long as my arm when I arrive home, but I tell myself that I have a student line of credit so at least I pay a bit less interest. At any rate, I ended up spending a day downtown and discovered that tons of sales were still on from Christmas and prices were marked down even more than they were on Boxing Day, so I bought a few items that I can wear into spring. True Value Vintage, which is located at the intersection of Granville and Robson beside Chapters and A&W, is a funky vintage store that also sells new labels and jewellery in addition to recycled shoes, purses, and clothes. I found a military style denim jacket; marked down from $89 to $29 and a soft blue long sleeved shirt with feathered shoulders (similar to the French fashion currently featured in Montreal); marked down from $100 to $20. Urban Outfitters is another one of my favourite stores, and is currently between seasons and transitioning into spring wear so a lot of their clothes are marked down. While accessories and shoes never go on sale, the awesome black leather wedges I bought in October are back along with dozens of other new designs by Deena and Ozzy; their line of footwear ranges from $69 to $110 and I can honestly say that they are comfortable and practical for wearing to schoo!. A quick tip from one of the appreciative staff at UO: between now and February all of their shirts, dresses, and pants will be further reduced, even the new arrivals, to make more room for their spring wear. So if you have the extra cash or are looking to put together a new outfit, Urban Outfitters is a good place to start; especially since most of their winter line is light enough and not so trendy that they can’t be worn into spring/summer. Alas, I am completely out of money for the moment, and my rent is due in two weeks, which means I will probably be eating peanut butter on crackers and Kraft dinner until I get paid. Did I mention I quit one of my jobs the other day? Looking back, I did it in hopes of having more time to study and improve my grades, but now I am immensely regretting this decision. I phoned my dad the other day and asked him to help me out, and he said no. By now, he knows better. Happy spending! IfFE ana SCYIE |
