On these CDs one can find Paula Cole, Indigo girls, Autour de Lucie, The Cardigans, Dayna Manning, Abra Moore, Lisa Loeb, September 67, Lhasa, Susanna Hoffs, Suzanne Vega, Joan Osborne, Sarah McLachlan, Emmylou Harris, Meredith Brooks, Patty Griffin, Wild Strawberries, Dar Williams, Shawn Colvin, Yungchen Lhamo, Tracy Bonham, Wild Colonials, Tara Maclean, and Victoria Williams. This collection of songs has the best 25 soft hits that anyone can find. It con- sists of music from Sarah McLachlan's music festival which toured over 35 cities with over 70 performers. Even Sarah McLachlan admits that it was a hard task, to choose who was going to be in this ensemble. The two CD collection was worth it though - Half of the proceeds from this set will be donated to RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). The other half will go to LifeBeat, a foundation searching for a cure and treatment for Aids. McLachlan says, “Putting this out brings me a feeling of joy, it really does, because it reminds me of how happy and how proud I was of that whole thing. I’ve never felt such a sense of pride for anything I've done in my life as much as much as I did for being involved with Lilith.” Next June, she plans on starting a repeat of last year’s tour, but with more bands. It will start on June [9th in Portland, Oregon and make S7 stops in North America. The bands that have confirmed their participation are McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Erykah Badu, Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Shawn Colvin, Bonnie Raitt, Me’Shell Ndegeocello, Victoria Williams, Paula Cole, Beth Orton, Queen Latifa, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, and Sinaed O’Connor. In addition to the main stage, Lilith Fair will incorporate second and village stages for both estab- lished and emerging artists. Lilith Fair is cunt to get a even higher contribution than last year’s which stood at $700,000. Tour sponsors will also participate in the charitable cause; one dollar from each ticket will be given to a local charity. The 1998 sponsors are Biore, Excite, Levi's, Royal Neighbors, of America, Starbucks Coffee, Tower Records, VHI, and Volkswagen. Following is a description of how and what they donate to the event: Biore This being its second time around, it plans on dedicating $100,000 to five national women's organizations. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN); National Association of Anorexia Nervosa; Associated Disorders ( ANAD), and LifeBeat. They will also support Wider Opportunities For Women (WOW), as well as the Rett yndrome Association. " Excite Excite, Inc. will donate site space for Lilith Fair and for irls Inc., which is a national youth organization. It tries to Lilith Fare Double set make girls stronger, and smarter. There will be an Excite Pavilion so that people at the concerts can get access to both the Lilith Fair website and CD-ROMS by Lilith Fair artists. Levi’s Will sponsor Lilith Fair's Acoustic Talent Search. In 14 cities across North America, the best artist will get to open on a Village stage in her home town. In addition, Levi's will have a talent search on their website (levi.com) the winner of which will be flown to Portland, Oregon to perform as the first artist on the Village Stage at the June 19th opening of the Lilith Fair 1998. Levi's will also make a donation of clothes to women’s shelters in select cities across the count Royal Neighbors of America RNA will make a charitable contribu- tion to Habitat for Humanity. Also, RNA representatives will be at each Lilith Fair show to provide the people with free life insurance profiles. | Starbucks Coffee Starbucks Coffee will make a limited edition of Starbucks/Lilith Fair CD. The CD, and a selection of other Starbucks/Lilith Fair merchandise, will be sold during the summer of ’98 in North American Starbucks locations. Ten percent of the sales from all of the Starbucks / Lilith Fair co-branded merchandise will be donated to Wider Opportunities for Women or WOW and to the YWCA. Starbucks’ travelling cafe will be in the village at every Lilith Fair show. Tower Record Tower will donate 5% of its on-site sales to LifeBeat. Also, in various cities throughout the tour, Tower Records will host in-store performances of Lilith Fair artists. VH1 and MuchMusic The US. television network for the 1998 Lilith Fair tour, will provide special daily Lilith Fair music on televi- sion. Save The Music will be present at each of the Lilith Fair dates. The VHI Save The Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to upgrading the current music edu- cation in America’s public schools. MuchMusic is Canada’s music network for Lilith Fair. Volkswagen of America Volkswagen will donate a special edition New Beetle which will be the prize in a draw that will benefit The Breast Cancer Fund. The new Beetle will be on display at the Volkswagen tent at each Lilith Fair show. The tickets are available at The Breast Cancer Fund booth.
