Gayle Allison from the Simon Fraser Health Unit, Rose Marie Four- nier of Douglas College’s Health Education Centre and Linda Tod of the S.P.A.R.C. Task Force on Elder Abuse were three of the Elder Abuse Conference organizers held on November 20 & 21. EDUCATION CENTRE OPENED A! the official opening of the Community Education Centre in Maple Ridge on Novem- ber 19, Helen Casher gave a very good speech which captured the spirit and challenge of our co- operation with the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows School Dis- trict. As Helen is well known by name, if not in person, by most people at Douglas College it would be interesting and ap- propriate to read the text of her speech. Helen served on the College Board for 10 years as a repre- sentative of School District #42. She served as Chairman of the College Board for 3 of those years. Jim Doerr Her speech reads as follows: I am pleased that this official opening is taking place while | am still a school trustee - 1 am also honoured to have this oppor- tunity to participate on behalf of our Board - Thank you Betty. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m winding down a career of 14 years on the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows School Board and I was, as well a mem- ber of the Douglas College Board for 10 years. The relationship between Douglas College and District 42 had been a rewarding one.
