COLLEGE EDUCATION COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHTS The following items were discussed at the February 11, 1987 meeting of the College Education Committee: 1. Information on Job Assessment and Preparation Program - Approved by Education and Student Services Division for recommendation to College Board. Gerry DellaMattia stated that Douglas College has been effective in developing programs and services for people with various needs, however, nothing has been structured for people with emotional problems. He referred to the circulated application for funding for a Job Assessment and Preparation Program. The program is designed for those people who have experienced emotional problems and who have recovered sufficiently to be able to undertake studies or return to work but may need help in preparing themselves. Gladys Loewen joined the meeting to speak to the proposal, provide background and answer questions. She stated that the proposal was developed in response to a need identified through meetings with the Adult Special Education Advisory Committee and Job Preparation Advisory Committee. The meetings were attended by representatives of all agencies within the College region. The Committee passed a motion of support for the proposal. Status of Policy Revisions Gerry DellaMattia advised that the policies dealing with Recognition of Completion of Prerequisites and Recognition of Prior Knowledge and Skills is being dealt with at the Division level and will be available for final review in March. The Admission policy is also going through the governance system and will | be brought forward to the March or April meeting of CEC. Policy Revision - Student Evaluation The policy was tabled with the advice that it would be discussed at the Division Education Committee meetings to be held on the 16th. The Committee expressed its appreciation to the Applied Program Division Education Committee for its initiative in addressing the issue. However, because of the complexity and the many issues involved it was felt that it might best be handled by a College-wide Committee. To that end the following motion was passed: WHEREAS the policy proposed for modification was created at a time when the College was much smaller and simpler and based on a set of assumptions of the kinds of programs offered, and
