It wasn’t—thar’s why they play the games. In a tough, hard fought battle the men fell 96-92 in OT. Mark Craven had a huge game for the Royals, dropping 35 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Jon Fast also had a great game, finishing with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Saturday, February 7, The UCFV Cascades swept into New West and ran into a wall. That wall was Jon Fast, and his 22 points and 10 rebounds lead Douglas to a 61—56 victory. Currently the Royals hold the sixth and final play-off spot, with a four point lead on the TWU Spartans, who they will take on at TWU in Langley on Friday at 8 pm. The women's team moved into sole possession of third place in the BCCAA with two wins over the weekend. Friday, February 6, the Royals destroyed the OUC Lakers 76-46, behind Carrie Rogers 19 points and 13 points from Stacy Reykdal. Saturday, February 7, the Royals again massacred their opponent, beating the UCFV Cascades 71-53. Stacy Reykdal dropped 21 points and grabbed 18 boards and Carrie Rogers finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Royals. The women are also in action Friday night in Langley against the TWU Spartans. Tip-off at 6 pm. Badminton: The final tune up for the provincial championships was held at Douglas last weekend. In the mixed doubles category Chantal Jobin and Mimitiaz Chaudry took first place. Men's doubles was very good to the Royals as Thinh Nguyen and Jimmy Mah defeated team-mates Thong Nguyen and Raymond Tsoi to give the Royals a first/second finish. In women’s doubles Lisa Yeung and Yayoi Koshimura took third and Gwen Chua and Kayla Yip took fourth to give the Royals first place in the overall team category, The Royals are currently ranked number one in the province, witha 10.8 point lead over second place Capilano. Douglas also has the number one ranked mixed doubles team (Chantal Jobin’and Mimitiaz Chaudhry) and the number one and two ranked men’s doubles teams (Jimmy Mah/Thinh Nguyen and Raymond Tsoi/ Thong Nguyen) in the rovince. Outdoor Adventure Show Hits Van Mountain biking, ice climbing, backpacking and dog sledding. All of these outdoor sports will be featured at the Outdoor Adventure Sports Show, February 27, 28 and March 1 at BC Place. For those of us who prefer to ogle over the latest, high-tech outdoor sports ‘ equipment, over 200 exhibitors will be showing off their wares. Rock climbing, sea and white water kayaking and backpacking are just some of the sports that will have new equipment displayed.
