agrees. “Including entries for the creative
non-fiction contest, we receive about 100
manuscripts a month, and each one of
them has something to offer.” While all
submissions cannot make it into the
journal, writers can gain invaluable
encouragement from Event’s reading
service.

“There’s nothing else like it in
Canada,” Bauder points out. “For $50,
any writer can get feedback from three
different readers, as well as a two-year
subscription.” Adds Zieroth, “This is
particularly useful for isolated writers,
those working towards professional
publication quality, or anyone wanting
different critical perspectives on their
work.”

For 25 years, Event has inspired a
spirit of mutual encouragement, respect,
and teamwork among its writers, staff and
editorial board. Those who have worked
on the journal in the past include Maurice
