$B | the Mad Hatter | A Douglas College Newslette January 26, 1988 Yesterday: is the name of a spe- cial exhibit featuring images of British Columbia’s past through the eyes of its artists. The show, presented by the Douglas College Art Exhibition Advisory Committee to celebrate Heritage Month, will be on dis- play throughout February in the Douglas College Theatre Foyer Gallery and two other New Westminster locations. Approximately 75 works by more than 40 artists will go on display on February 1 at 6 p.m. in the Theatre Foyer Gallery and Library Foyer, the Gallery in the Park ( at Queen’s Park) and the New Westminster Public Library Gallery. An official opening will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Theatre Foyer Gallery. A highlight of the eve- ning will be an appearance by Ernie Poignant, a storyteller and artist who illustrates his works with constantly changing chalk drawings. “We invite the public to attend the opening," said Helen Rowan, convener of the presentation. The theme of local heritage at- tracted artists from around the province, primarily from the Lower Mainland. Artists were in- vited to submit work in any of several categories, but were limited to three pieces per artist, making for a varied and interest- ing show. "The majority of the works are paintings, in oil, acrylics and watercolour," said Rowan, "as well as some photography, and there’s even one quilt on display.” The exhibit closes on February 29. Profile -- JACQUELINE GRESKO: EXPERT OF LOCAL HISTORY | uae Gresko grew up in New Westminster and first be- came interested in the community's past while working ona high school project. She is now a specialist on the area’s local history but that doesn’t mean she has a narrow range of interests. In fact, after finishing high school she considered studying astronomy, but didn’t like the amount of math involved. After her second year in Arts at the University of British Columbia she travelled with her sister for four months in Europe. continued on page 2 IN THE HAT Ken McGlinchey Scholarship Introducing... tion Program Building Air Circulation - Classrooms Keys Northern Telecom National Educa- Ski Condo for Rent Upcoming Events Renewal of Current Parking Passes Illegally Parked Vehicles Group Advising Sessions Career Seminars
