INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / JANUARY 22, 1991 Public Meetings Scheduled: Registration Priorities proposal to revise the current registration priorities was rejected by the Education Council at the September 1990 meeting. Council did believe that some changes to the current priority system were warranted. To refresh people’s memories, the rejected proposal recom- mended six items as follows: 1. GPA registration for returning students; 2. New student registration time assigned by date of application; 3. Advance registration for closed enrollment programs; 4. Re-application for students who had been absent for more than a two-year span. Appointment times would be determined for these students by the date of re-application; 5. Grades to be submitted within 72 hours to facilitate calculation of a term GPA; 6. No advance registration for any group of students, except visually and hearing impaired students. Item #1 was rejected outright. The task force group which drafted the original proposal was charged by the Education Council with reviewing the situation again. To that end, the Council recom- mended that the task force set up public forums for oral presenta- tions, and in addition, allow in- dividuals or departments to present written submissions. All submissions would be reviewed, and a new proposal would be presented to the Education Coun- cil for its consideration. Therefore, please be advised that two public meetings have been scheduled. The date, times and places are as follows: DATE TIME Feb. 5/91 2:15-4:00 p.m. Feb. 6/91 4:15-6:00 p.m. Submissions will be heard on a first come, first served basis at the public meetings. Everyone is encouraged to present submis- sions to the Committee. The Com- mittee would appreciate written material to accompany any oral presentation. Written submissions PLACE Room 2201 Room 2203 may also be sent directly to the Chair, Trish Angus, no later than February 15, 1991. All recommendations should consider implementation issues. The Committee looks forward to input from the College to assist in formulating a new proposal. @ Faculty Development Workshops** Series V (Spring 1991) Community College Exchange Program February 4, 1991, 1000-1200, Boardroom April 4, 1991, 1200-1400, Room 1807 Instructional Media Services - Guided Tours February 14, 1991, 1000-1200, Room 3142 March 28, 1991, 1200-1400, Room 3142 *Ethical Encounters for College Personnel February 21, 1991, 0900-1200, Room 1618 *Learner-Participant Retention February 21,1991, 1300-1600, Room 2203 *Learning Communities February 22, 1991, 0900-1500, Room 2201 Integrated Neuro Systems March 4, 1991, 0900-1200, Room 1630 Women’s Ways of Knowing March 14, 1991, 0900-1200, Room 1618 Learning Styles March 18, 1991, 1200-1500, Room 1622 *During Spring Breaks Pre-registration is required - Call local 5122 for more information. ** NB, Open to All Employees of Douglas College @
