INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / JANUARY 31, 1989 Spaghetti Bridge Continued famed Golden Gate and Oak- land-Bay bridges, and $500.00 in pocket money, courtesy of Canadian International Airlines and the Applied Science Tech- nologists and Technicians of B.C. All entrants will receive a complimentary product sampler package from Catelli to replace building materials. Rules are as follows: 1. The bridge may be built of any commercial pasta product. Glue or epoxy shall be the only joining material. 2. The bridge shall be free standing (not attached to the table in any way) and must span a distance greater than 1.0 m between two level surfaces which are 1.0 m apart. 3. The support for the bridge shall be from the top of the level surface and the edge shall not be used as a support in any way. 4, The bridge must include a decking of pasta material to provide a solid driving surface at least 5.0 cm wide across the full span of the bridge, over which a small metal car of "The Hotwheels" or "Matchbox" variety can pass. The driving surface must, in the judges’ opinion, represent a true bridge structure. 5. An "official loading platform" made of 1/4" fiberboard with a metal hook attached, may be obtained from Okanagan College. The loading platform must be located at the centre of the bridge, immediately below, or above the decking material. The loading platform cannot be altered in any way. 6. The maximum vertical depth of the bridge cannot exceed 0.5 m. 7. The maximum mass of any bridge including the loading platform must not exceed 750 grams. 8.
