The contract must also be ap- proved by the Douglas College Board and provincial government. The agreement, which is retroac- tive to Nov 1, 1991 and remains in effect to Dec 31, 1993 includes a wage settlement of 7.5 percent over the first 14 months and 2.5 percent in the second 12 months. Other highlights of the agree- ment include: a $55 per semester Transportation payment (for two semesters per year) for regular employees; several changes in vacation allotment and a shift in the vacation-entitlement period from Apr 1-Sept 30; an increase in the allowed term for maternity leave from six to 12 months; new provisions to deal with personal harassment complaints; and estab- lishment of a union-employer Pay Equity Committee to recommend adjustments in the current job evaluation plan to eliminate the bias against jobs traditionally done by women. “There are a number of chan- ges in the agreement which enhance and recognize the role of BCGEU staff at the College,” said Peter Sanderson, Director of Labour Relations. “The first year of the agreement is designed to bring support staff in line with other members of the College community. The second year is a recognition of today’s difficult economic times.” Union representative Barb Offen said the agreement was accepted with “a comfortable INSIDE INSIDE March 17, 1992 Anew breed of bankers Studying urban ravines Staff profile Briefs 2 2 3 Events calendar 3 4 Inside zone 5 6 New videos in Library majority.” “| think it’s a good agreement,” said Offen. “The bargaining comit- BCGEU continued on page 4 This blackboard (right) in the concourse was Hello... covered with greetings in lots of different languages during Multi- culturalism Week on campus.
