On May 9, the Minister announced a further $7.7 million. $14 million cont... The $14 million allocation today will provide $2 million for a system-wide equipment upgrade and a further $2 million for college/institute computer enhancement. A third allocation of $2 million will be used as an incentive to have institutions establish innovative arrangements with one another and with industry to ensure availability of appropriate specialized equipment at efficient costs. The remaining $8 million will fund 40 specific projects. The Minister praised the institutions for their creativity and for their co-operation and assistance in helping him to gain Cabinet approval of the 40 projects. The Minister said that he expected the funds to materially affect the institutions' offerings this September, vastly increasing the options available to students of post-secondary age in B.C. "This I think will demonstrate this government's commitment to education in the province. It will go a long way to expanding the educational infrastructure necessary to keep this province competitive in terms of skilled manpower," said Fraser.
