MAD HATTER PAGE 4 Announcement TO: ALL DOUGLAS COLLEGE FACULTY FROM: ED REDMOND, Administrator of Reference, Educational Leave Committee JIM DAVIES, Vice-President, Douglas-Kwantlen Faculty Association EDUCATIONAL LEAVE The deadline for submitting Educational Leave applications is December 1, 1981. These requests will be distributed to the Educational Leave Committee by Ed Redmond's office. Please contact Jean Hammer, local 10 - Winslow Site, if you require a copy of the revised guidelines for adjudicating Educational Leave requests, and refer to Article 12 of the Collective Agreement for further information relating to eligibility, etc. GUIDELINES FOR ADJUDICATING EDUCATIONAL LEAVE REQUESTS Completed application forms will be sent to the responsible Dean by December Ist. Dean will have forms duplicated and distributed to the Educational Leave Committee members. Relevant people (e.g. deans, directors, chairpersons, conveners) will be notified and asked to cémment: on the application. Copies of these comments will be distributed to the Educational Leave Commi ttee members and the applicant. Rerthis =e 3. The Educational Leave Committee will meet to review the application forms and have an initial discussion on the requests. Factors for consideration: (a) Which of the criteria, as set down in Article 12.02 does the request fall into and how well? (b) A consideration of the comments from deans, directors, chairpersons, and discipline/program groups in terms of support for the project (e.g. enthusiastic, non-committal, against). (c) Presentation. The legibility and clarity of the proposal. The thought given to it in terms of goals, preparations, contacts, acceptance letters. The consideration of the results for college, students and faculty member. What methods of reporting and use of end results are proposed? 4. Interviews: Depending upon the number of applicants, it may be necessary to have two or more interview teams each, with a spokesman and a recorder. A whole day will probably need to be set aside for interviews. questions, and points of clarification to be put to the applicants. | (a) Before the interviews the Committee will meet as a whole to exchange comments and— — | (b) Thirty minutes will be allowed for each interview. | | (c) Immediately following the interviews, the Committee will meet again, as a whole, to exchange information on each candidate's application. \ (d) A vote will be taken on each application, to determine whether it be accepted | C or rejected. ; 4 5. Ranking: each member of the Educational Leave Committee will secretly rank the successful applicants. These rankings wil] be collectively ranked on the board, totalled, and a final list prepared. 6. Comments on each of the applications will be drawn together by the Educational Leave Committee Chairperson, as the report and recommendations of the Committee. This report will be circulated to all Committee members for final comment before being submitted to the President by February 28th. —_— J.
