INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / July 23, 1991 Top students honoured at awards ceremony Five top students were honoured with awards from the Douglas College Foundation during ceremonies on July 17. The George Wootton Scholar- ship honours the first president of Douglas College and is available to graduating students who have shown superior scholastic ability and significant participation in college and/or community events. Co-winners of the scholarship this year were Doreen Littlejohn and Lynda Rose Smyth. Littlejohn graduated from the General Nursing Program in January with a 4.19 overall grade point average and was active working to establish housing for people with mental disabilities and low incomes. She also received the Solicitor-General of Canada’s Crime Prevention Award for B.C. in 1986 for her volunteer work in crime prevention. Smyth graduated in June with an Associate Diploma in Perform- ing Arts — Music. She achieved a Trish Gauntlett presents the award named for her sister, the Mary Fewster Memorial Nursing Scholarship, to Cheralyn Marie Gaillie. Five students were honoured with Douglas College Foundation Awards on July 17. Cheralyn Marie Gaillie and Lorraine Barbara McEwan were co-recipients of the Mary Fewster Memorial Nursing Scholarship for graduating students in the General Nursing Program. Gaillie achieved a 4.19 cumulative gpa and McEwan achieved a 3.84 gpa. Hf 4.03 gpa and often contributed to the community spirit among music students. Joe Chahal, who recently graduated with an Associate Diploma in Accounting Manage- ment, received a Continuing Education Scholarship for a graduating student offered by the Certified General Accountants Association of B.C. Chahal plans to commence fourth level work in the CGA program in the fall.
