Tapping into university indexes Faculty members who wish to access the local university catalogues and on-line in- dexes through their own modem may do so - the only catch is that you have to have a library card number (unlike the public libraries which allow anyone to dial in directly). To obtain a UBC or SFU library card, check at the circulation desk of the respec- tive library. You will need proof of employment as a college faculty member, so take along a letter from personnel, or try a combination of your employee LD. card and a recent pay stub. University cards expire at the end of a year, but can be renewed. Each of the university libraries have extensive handouts on how to dial in to their systems. UBC’s system is not very user friendly, so you may also wish to purchase a guide to their command language from the UBC book store. A Did You Know?
