Hard Work Pays Off We at Douglas College can be proud of our athletes, as all their hard work seems to be paying off. Congratulations to all the teams who did so well on the weekend. Thank You A large vote of thanks to the people who helped run the tournament this past weekend. Kris Remmen (Minor Official) put in a great many long hours; Rob Vail (Facilities Manager) came back to Douglas especially for this occasion; Dave Seaweed(P.A. Announcer) was great as always; and thanks also goes to Richard Norman and his basketball team for doing all the All-Star Awards for the entire tournament. Richard's Women's Basketball team did the minor officiating as well as the supervising at the door. In the midst of all this volunteering, they defeated the University of Victoria JV's 95 - 57 on Saturday. Good Job Girls! Well Done! The Men's Volleyball team ran the function at Dontenwill Hall after the tournament; they supervised the bar, the door and cash. The team is fund-raising for a January trip to Calgary for the $.A.1.T. tournament. They are eventually hoping to attain a gold medal finish in Totem in March 1986. They deserve a lot of praise! (continued) Thanks to Mike Garisto for his help in obtaining the Hall and in supervising the clean up until 4:30 A.M. Sunday morning. Hope the pancake breakfast he attended at 7:00 A.M. on Sunday restored his energy. Thanks Mike! Congratulations Brent! Douglas College boxer Brent Daschuk was awarded Best Senior Boxer at the SIN (Senior- Intermediate-Novice) tournament held at the Burnaby Training Centre on Sunday November 3. As CKVU pointed out during the broadcast, amateur boxing is light years away from profes- sional boxing both in ethics and rules. It is fortunate that the boxers at Douglas can pursue an education while participating in their favorite sport. 2nd Annual Royal Classic Men's Basketball Tournament The 2nd Annual Royal Classic was held on the week-end at Douglas College with the Vancouver City Police as the eventual winners.
