On Friday night (Nov. 25), Royals avenged an earlier 60-48 loss to the University of Victoria JV’s by defeating them at Douglas College, 49-46. Led by a strong team effort on defense, and outside shooting by Tammy Saitz (14 points) and Ethel Atte (10 points), Douglas College controlled the play pret- ty much throughout. Claudia Zamprogno also netted 10 points for the Royals. Saturday night (Nov. 26), Royals faced Trinity Western University in the league opener for both teams. It was a hard- fought game as both teams played with much intensity. Douglas College hung on and shut TWU down in the clos- ing seconds, as Andrea Jackson blocked a 3 point attempt and then ran across the court to block a 2 point attempt, to seal the victory for the Royals (59- 53). Andrea Jackson led Douglas College with 21 points, while Ethel Atte had 17. Royals take a break until late December, when they travel to Phoenix for an eight team women’s tournament.
