Thanks to a tremendous response to the program organized by Financial Aid, 48 holiday hampers were delivered. With extra donations, Financial Aid was able to help an additional family with food. Student recipients were overwhelmed by the generosity. Here are some comments: “Thank you very much for making a single mom’ Christmas come true for my children. We are going to have a wonderful Christmas.” “... thank you from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately, this Christmas was expected to bring no gifts, however, because of your donations, I will be able to see the look on my son’ face Christmas morning when he opens his gifts.” “Thank you all so very much for all your support and help during this time. To explain how thankful we are, your donations will help us get back on our feet. Thank you all so very much.” Learning Technology Centre officially opens IUE gets boost from Vancouver Foundation Management Services Minister Joyce Murray was on hand December 2 to help Douglas College President Susan Witter officially open the Learning Technology Centre. The $5.3 million centre, built on top of the North Wing of the New Westminster Campus, was funded by the provincial Government and Douglas College. Murray said the centre will benefit the College and the community by enabling technical literacy and high-tech skills development. The 2,260- square-metre expansion project features seven, 40-seat computer labs and two specialized computer- equipped classrooms. The Institute of Urban Ecology (LUE) has received a $15,000 grant from the Vancouver Foundation to help make the development of northeast Coquitlam environmentally-friendly. ‘The grant represents nearly one-third of the $51,000 project designed to prevent habitat loss, limit the impact of the development on the environment and to encourage biodiversity. “Thank you for your generosity and kindness. The committee liaises with council’s Land Use and Economic Development Standing Committee and provides advice on issues like transportation, business diversity, tourism and community planning. It also promotes a healthy and safe community and Wilson will advise on development and monitoring of sustainability indicators for the city.
