Seasonal Flu Shots are the way to go By Maria Asselin-Roy, Staff Reporter way to prevent illness is to get vaccinated. Every year different flu shots come out. The difference between last years flu shot and this one is dependant on the seasonal virus that is expected to make an outbreak. Last year a very different flu shot came out, I’m sure everyone remembers the HIN1 virus that caused world wide panic. The H1N1 virus is expected to spread again this season, along with other influenza viruses. This year’s flu shot will protect individuals against three viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus, and the HIN1 virus that caused such a flu pandemic last year. Health researchers are encouraging everyone (even those who already received the H1N1 vaccination last year) to get the flu vaccine, not only for yourself but for others around you. This will prevent the spread of disease and create a healthier environment. It is also recommended that you get a vaccine as soon as it is available. Last year at Douglas College, there were several absences due to the influenza virus. Because students and staff go to school with thousands of other people, it’s no wonder illness was spread so quickly. Seasonal tips: Wash your hands frequently, when you have to sneeze do so in the crook of your arm, and get a flu shot! E: season is just around the corner, and the best Still a Virgin? Billboards By Maria Asselin-Roy, Staff Reporter any people have noticed — these new Still a Virgin? advertisements and billboards, myself included. The ad is not promoting sex, but it is promoting a new semaine movie called “The Virginity Hit”, produced by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. The ads are very large, you can’t miss them when driving down a main road or waiting at a bus stop. The billboard provides a toll free number for help. According to recent polls, more than 70,000 people called the 888 number in five days. When you call, there is a voice recording of the actors in the movie trying to have some fun on the subject. (Some people even called thinking the ad was serious) These billboards are now the centre of controversy all over the United States and Canada. As we all know, sex sells. Some people think this is genius marketing because it is getting the attention of individuals everywhere. However, many parents are complaining about the ad because for many it is seen as inappropriate and provocative, not to mention creating some awkward car rides for parents and their children. Other parents are seeing the ad as an opportunity to talk to their children about sex and the concept of virginity. Whether people love or hate the ad, it is definitely getting attention.
