INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / October 1, 1991 The calendar says it’s autumn, but it sure feels like summer, except for the beehive of activity throughout the campus. With the fall popula- tion boom, we figure there has to be more gossip out there, so let us know at 527-5325. Here goes... From Accounting to Entertainment... Now that’s a switch in careers. Diane Thompson, former Accounts Payable Clerk, just finished produc- ing and arranging a children’s music tape called Ride Your Dreams - Songs by Esther with the So-La-Me Singers. You can hear Diane on the tape; she did keyboards and backup vocals. During production, Diane worked with Bart Gurr, who en- gineered Charlotte Diamond’s Juno Award Kid’s Cassette. Anyone inter- ested in buying a copy of this special musical endeavour can call Diane at 526-0506. Babies, babies and more babies... Congratulations to those whose families are now bigger by one, in- cluding: Geri Patterson and Janet Spenser (both from Therapeutic Recreation) who both had baby boys; Phys Ed’s Alan Chin and wife Ann, who had a baby girl; Phys Ed’s Gert and Cathy Van Niekerk. Gert was away in Victoria with the Douglas College golf team when he found out about the arrival of his new son. Some people do win at the 6/49... Ericka Rischanek and Darlene Wallace, cooks in the Douglas College cafeteria, managed to do the nearly-impossible. These two came up with 5 numbers plus the bonus number on a 6/49 draw. Their total winnings came to $57,194, $28,597 each - definitely not just spare change. Rischanek plans to buy a new set of wheels, while Wallace will pay off some bills. Love blossoms in London... DC badminton team member Jitinder Badh met her husband-to- be while the team toured jolly old England this past summer. After she returned home, he came over for a visit and the two were engaged last week. Suspended in political purgatory... It may surprise no one that Public Information Officer Bill Bell has been conspicuously absent since the provincial election was called. Want to know what he’s doing? Check the Vancouver Sun, Province, or just about any media source, and you'll find out. Little Michelangelos in training... This past summer Early Childhood Education Instructor Cathleen Smith visited the Italian city of Reggio Emilia (between Milan and Florence) and saw “the most wonderful daycare centres I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s a sys- tem of parent-+un daycare paid for Goodbye, Myrna... Myrna Wing, Admissions Clerk in the Registrar’s Office is leaving the main campus and moving to Maple Ridge’s admission office. Bad for us, but great for Myrna; she lives in Whonnock. Back from his honeymoon... Darryl Karleen in Systems and Computing recently tied the knot in Victoria, and spent his honeymoon in Nelson, B.C. We thought he got that golden tan in Florida, but it turns out they couldn’t make his long-awaited trip to Disney World. Congratulations anyway, Darryl! On holiday... Arnie Driver went away on September 13 and returned on the 30th. We don’t know if he went anywhere, but if he did, it was probably on two wheels. He’s an avid cyclist. Heather Campbell is due back from England in early October. And can you believe the some peoples’ luck? We hear that Wendy Watt is lounging on a beach in the Grand Cayman Is- lands. Going solo... Linda Stieler from Student Ser- vices has gone out on her own to work as a counsellor. She'll only be On campus one day per week. Good luck in your new endeavour, Linda. @ by the municipal governments. Each daycare has an art teacher, because they believe children should be able to express them- selves with visual, graphic and musical arts. By the time they’re six, they’re doing beautiful draw- ing, sculptures, and collages...” Squatters rights revoked... We’ve all heard complaints before, but this one deserves printing. People in the college’s 2800 block are bitter about the closure of one of the two wash- rooms in the 2800 area. They feel the College has limited Farcus © Farcus Cartoons Inc. 1990 their ‘squatters rights’ by leaving only a single facility in the area. Can’t you file a grievance like everyone else?
