I hate Metric. I hate their synth-pop veneer, I hate their trendy artsy-fartsy videos, I hate the way they make me feel bile in my stomach begin to lurch upwards when I hear their music, but most of all, I hate they way they produce tadio-friendly pop music that has some how been passed off as exciting in the indie world. I wasn’t going to say anything, but then I realized Mr. Patterson was comparing this wholly untalented band to some very respectable and talented acts. Let me first say this: I know Mr. Paterson didn’t actually mention The Clash, he merely eluded to some connection in the header of his article (combat rock), but I am eternally thankful he didn’t, because I’m sure I would have ground my teeth to powder, and subsequently had a massive coronary. I did, however, notice that Mr. Paterson compared those media-lovely douche-bags to Queen. Queen was sublime; they were one of the most diverse, creative, and visionary rock bands ever. Metric are boring and can easily be pigeon-holed. Paterson also compared Metric to Sleater-Kinney, whom are just a better band in every conceivable way...and I’m not exactly a Sleater- Kinney uberfan. The last band of merit that Mr. Paterson com- pared those pop-pushing trendies to was Iron Maiden. Metric is nothing like Iron Maiden, nor do they deserve to lick the sweat off of Steve Harris’ salty leathers after a long night of rocking, I noticed in his article that Mr. Paterson expressed a deep lust for Metric’s lead singer, Emily Hains. I don’t blame him, there is no doubt about it, Emily Hains is an extremely beautiful and sexy specimen, its no coincidence her face is on the cover of every Metric album to date. In fact, Metric has made a career out of Emily Hains being beautiful; she is so damn sexy that she can hypnotize young, impressionable males into thinking Metric is a decent band, which is obviously what happened with Mr. Paterson. —Brady Ehler
