TIMMY HO'S FO SHO’ 3 iciies scien W,y don’t we have a Tim Horton’s at New West? David Lam has one and it’s quite popular. We have the space for one here if we were to just remove that greasy mediocre pizza place in the basement of the college, anyways. And if I want pizza there are still many places to go right on Douglas’ doorstep (Bella, Royal Hut, Boston... need I continue?), all of which are far superior in quality and service to boot. Even if it’s not about the quality for you, consider this: if 1 want a special order at the deli, the pizza ladies glare at me and look at me like I’m crazy. True story! I once ordered a slice from the Deli, and I asked for—oh my god, the humanity —a fresh slice just out of the oven. I was told, “Never ask for this again!” and then they shoved the slice of pizza towards me without a care as to whether or not it would be dropped on the floor. Good customer service, eh? A food place worth giving my business to? I think not. If I’m paying good money I expect a good return, not just service-wise, but I also expect to get a hot, fresh, tasty piece of food; that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Anytime I’ve ever been at the David Lam Timmy Ho’s they’ve never, ever done that! Their servers are nice. They are patient. I once needed to order several doughnuts for a meeting and they bared with me as I made my selection, which went on and on for ten minutes, despite a busy line no less! That’s the difference; they put in the effort. And it’s obvious why: making tons of pizzas in a day is stressful, especially when it’s busy. Doughnuts don’t have to be as fresh. So, it could clearly take that stress off the staff allowing them to focus on customer service instead of making enough food to last the rush. Therefore, instead of wasting our time with $3 slices of grease, why don’t we get high quality doughnuts, drinks, and soups? I’d much rather deal with staff who are not so stressed out because of how busy it is on break than the pizza-making stress balls we currently have. Also, it would make getting a quick snack that much quicker because everything at Timmy’s comes pre-prepared. So, the next time you think, “Man, I want a pizza,” go to the cafeteria, or to any number of the local pizza establishments instead. Help push for more doughnuts, soups and coffees for all instead! A host to numerous events and activities, the center point of campus is never too cold, and is naturally lit all year long (except after dark, of course). Connecting the cafeteria, north, south, east and west divisions of the school, and acting as home to the registrar’s office, cashier, and security, our concourse is the perfect center point of 700 Royal Ave. 2) Architecture: the NWC uses its surroundings to its advantage in getting along well with the terrain of \ the Royal city. New West is full of hills, and Douglas College is exactly the same way, as large staircases and different levels seem to flow into one another with ease. Overlooking the Fraser River, sunsets are thoroughly enjoyed at any window, with six floors to choose from. 3) Transit: How easy is it to get to school in the morning with the SkyTrain, TransLink’s quickest mode of transportation, stopping one block south of your first classes. Burnaby is within a 10 minute train ride, and Vancouver is no more than a half an hour away. Reaching David Lam requires SkyTrain and bus from down town New West... how convenient... Continued Pg 10
