This program provides basic information regarding measures that
must be taken to prevent transmission of infection, potential
sources of infecting organisms, the means of transmission and
the susceptible host.

D.E.S.: An Uncertain Legacy VHS 55 mins.

From 1941 to 1971, several million pregnant women were given
D.E.S., a synthetic estrogen prescribed to prevent miscarriages.
Today, cancer and other medical problems are appearing in some
of the children of women who took the drug. This documentary
focusses on a young D.E.S. daughter who has cancer and who, with
her mother, founded the first D.E.S. action group in Canada to
alert the public to the drug's potential health hazards. The
film puts the whole phenomenon of prescription drugs and women
into historical perspective, and raises the issues of commer-
cialism and sexism in the medical and health-care system.
To-day, although it is banned for use during pregnancy, D.E.S.
and D.E.S.-type drugs are still used in estrogen-replacement
therapy, in the morning after pill, as a fertility drug, and

as a lactation suppressant for new mothers.

This film describes music and rhythms of Africa and how they
are used both as music and means of communication. Demon- |
strates the complex rhythmical music of bells, the rattles

and the drums. Shows several traditional dances.
