Men’s Volleyball squad heading for Nat’! Championships College sports update The Douglas College Men’s Volleyball team will be heading for CCAA National Championships in Nova Scotia on March 5 after sweeping, undefeated, through the BCCAA semi- final and final February 24 at Douglas College. Both the Malaspina Mariners and TWU Spartans went down without winning a single game to a Douglas College squad that included CCAA All Canadian squad and BCCAA Ist team All Conference member Ken Kleindienst, James Sneddon and Cam Secret. Douglas College Coach Brian Boles was selected as a 2nd Team All Conference member. The Douglas College Women’s Volleyball team went into the BCCAA Championships on February 23&24 hoping to repeat last year’s first place finish. They got off to a good start by defeating the Camosun Chargers in three straight games but their next opponent, the first place and CCAA #3- ranked Malaspina Mariners, handed the squad a 3-0 loss of its own. The bronze medal match pitted the Royals squad against the OUC Lakers. While the Royals won the opening game, the Lakers came back to win three straight and drop the Douglas College team to fourth place. At the BCCAA Badminton Championships at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo on February 24 & 25, Douglas College’s Tomomi Ohkubo and Kyoko Yamada finished second in the women’s doubles competition to earn a place at the CCAA National Championships. The men’s doubles team of Michael Yang and Bobby Joe Bretirezk played its way to third place, while the Douglas College team ended the championship in fourth. The CCAA Championships will be taking place at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo March 6-10.
