Goodbye to Pat... After two years at Douglas College, Thomas Haney Centre Director Pat Floyd (front, left) left in December to become Executive Director of the Private Post-Secondary Education Commission of B.C. The provincially appointed body enforces accreditation of private post-secondary institutions such as Trend College. Seen here bidding good- bye to his friends in CP&S and Administration, Pat says he will miss his colleagues. “I’m looking forward to the responsibilities and challenges of my new position, but | am sad to leave all the good people at Douglas College.” Pinetree Way update A three-part package that gives details for the new campus will be sent to Victoria in January for approval by the Ministry of Skills, Training and Labour, said Jim Doerr at the December Pinetree Way campus update meeting. The package includes massing plans, a written description of the space program, and a quantity survey which gives an estimate of cost. In the next stage, massing studies are turned into a design and then into working drawings. The latter are used to ask Treas- ury Board for funding for construction. Participation from College groups has been good, said Doerr. He hopes that people will look at the project not only from the perspectives of their own departments, but from a cross-College point of view. Schedules of meetings of user representa- tives and divisional groups will be out in early January to ensure that information is shared among all stakeholders. “Our notion was to get it in front of as many College groups as possible, and we’ ve had excellent input. People generally like what’s come forward to date. January should see completion of the first major step of the campus development process,” Doerr says. Booking forms have been distributed through the departmental assistants, or bookings may be made by phoning Lisa Baer, Orientation Assistant, at local 5198. The orientation session normally takes one hour, and consists of a short presentation by a librarian, followed by the completion of a self-paced assignment. Students who have already completed the introductory lab exercise should be encouraged to do the more advanced version. The assignments are marked in the library and returned to the instructor for distribution back to the students. The library also offers a variety of half-hour instructional sessions at 11:00 a.m. each weekday, ranging from walking tours to database searching.
