The message from government at all levels is clear: public money for education is in short supply. That’s why the work of the Douglas College Foundation is so important. It manages endowments of about $2.5 million, and oversees donations of $900,000 each year, providing financial support for students and alumni activities and financial support for further develop- ment of College programs. But the Foundation does more than just distribute scholarships and bursaries; it’s a resource for the College in other ways as well. Here’s a look at the people who make up the Douglas College Foundation, and what they do. Mark Crozet, Director Mark is the first resource person to see regarding fundraising activities and donations to the College. He runs the administrative side of the Foundation, which includes managing the endowment funds, support for the Foundation board of directors, overseeing annual programs and activities, and planning for major gifts. He is the community liaison for Foun- dation campaign planning, and manages distribution of funds. He can provide advice on how to raise funds for College programs and activities, or how to go about making a donation to the Foundation or to a College program. Alana Frymire, Alumni and Development Officer Alana’s primary role is working with faculty on fundraising projects. Student aid projects begin with her as well; she works to find possible sources of funds, and then develops and writes proposals for funding from those sources. Alana is the support person for the Alumni Association, and coordinates most of the Alumni Association activities, such as the Career Fair. She also produces print materials for the Foundation, and for specific projects. Deb McFadyen, Community Resource Development Assistant Deb coordinates most of the Foundation’s annual programs, such as Foundation Week and the Award Ceremonies that take place each semester. She is in charge of records manage- ment for the Foundation, keeping track of donors and maintaining contact with them. Deb coordinates annual mail programs, internal fundraising programs (such as the 60/40 lottery), and external communications (newsletter and annual report mailing and other donor contacts). i
