(ena aan er a i an nels, UE ue asia Ss OR OE President’s Report Highlights - December In early December, Bill Day participated as part of the Joint Project Steering Committee assessing and continuing negotiations for the Canada- India Institutional Cooperating Project in Bangalore, India. This ACCC-managed project is a large international project worth in excess of $20 million. Bill was also honored to be asked to be a Canadian delegate to the OECD Conference in Paris, France on “Learning Beyond Schooling - Matching Supply with New Demands”. The College and the education community was saddened with the death of Dr. Frank Beinder on December |. A friend of Douglas College and personal friend of many of us who work here, Frank was the first Executive Director of the B.C. Association of Colleges - the forerunner to the AECBC. Known throughout B.C. as “Mr. College’, Frank was an outspoken proponent in the early 60’s for establishing community colleges to provide “life chances for people”’. On December 13, the senior management team held a lengthy budget meeting in preparation for the 1995/96 fiscal year. All indications are that SIDE_ INFORMATION INside Douglas College is published the first Tuesday of every month by the Public Information Office and the College Duplicating Centre. The College is fortunate that we are in a growth mode (the new Pinetree campus) and have strong demand for our services. Next year will present challenges but one that the College should be able to deal with. Budget assumptions and projections for next year will be distributed to the College community in early January. Always nifty, now she’s... Maureen Wilkinson got a little older and a lot better on December 12. The Circulations Assistant in the Learning Resource Centre turned the calendar on fifty years that day. Colleagues presented her with a cake that looked about fifty years old, and a book explaining why she’s now better than she’s ever been. Congratulations, Maureen!
