TO: DOUGLAS COLLEGE BOARD ; ie Mad Hatter Page t1 The Board will be pleased to hear that the Vancouver Foundation is sup- porting the Purcell String Quartet in a one semester residency at Douglas College. The quartet will be giving a number of public performances and providing workshops for Douglas College music students. The Douglas College theatre production “Working” will open next Thursday, November 22nd. This production promises to be an exciting different entertainment. It has received excellent reviews elsewhere, and the Douglas College production will be outstanding. Board members are cordially invited. INTERNAL - PERSONNEL I have made the decision to not fill the Director of Physical Plant and Site Services position. On an interim basis I have assigned duties at the policy level to Mr. Morfey, and at the operations level to Mr. Leonard, whose title for the next 12 months will be Acting Director of Facilities Services. This interim arrangement will be reviewed in June, 1985 and a final decision made in October, 1985. Until a final decision is made regarding the office of the Registrar, I have asked Dr. DellaMattia to assume necessary functions of the Registrar. The staff of the Registrar's Office have been most helpful, and the Board can be assured that over the short term, operations are continuing smoothly. I expect to make an announcement at the next Board meeting regarding permanent arrangements. I have carried out a review of workloads of the Deans and the Bursar, and have made some adjustments of responsibility for College-wide and committee activities. I have asked Mr. Jim Doerr to take over primary staff responsibility for the Douglas College Student Trust, with Mr. Morfey providing financial analysis and advice. Mr. Gordon Gilgan has been assigned to represent the College on the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce. A two-year plan of activity assignments for the Deans is under review, and will be approved at the next meeting of the Management Committee. These assignments are intended to change annually, in order to insure stimulation, and breadth of knowledge among the Deans. Negotiations have commenced with the BCGEU reg rding renewal of the- current contract. DOUGLAS CULLE INTERNAL - GENERAL ? ARCHIVES On Tuesday, November 6th, Jesse Sedhu, President of the Student Society met with me to discuss concerns of the student body, basically centering around the impact of funding restrictions forecast over the next three years. On Tuesday, November 13th, the administrative personnel of the College met to review my draft responses regarding the Administrative Operations Review report. The meeting was most helpful to me, and will allow me to produce a final document in the very near future. 1 expect that the Board will have this available for their information before the next Board meet- ing. I will ask for it to be tabled at the Finance, Facilities & Personnel Committee, in order that I can have the benefit of their commentary and advice. WLD/gb
