ES 24 TEAM DOUGLAS Team Douglas played three games in the past two weeks, winning one and ‘losing two. On Tuesday, Feb. 12th, the team lost to BCIT Forestry at Aldergrove Arena. Douglas started slowly and were behind 2 - 0 after the first period and 3 - 0 after the second. The team came alive in the third period but it was too late. They outscored BCIT 2 - 1 but the final score was 4 - 2 for BCIT. Scoring for Douglas were Ken Zakala (assisted by Ro” Hovey) and Al Lewis (assisted by Ken Zakala). In the second game, Team Douglas journeyed to Abbotsford on Sat. Feb. 16th to play Columbia Bible Institute and came away with their first victory against CBI all season. Douglas started fast, jumping to a 2 - 0 lead but CBI evened it up by the half-way point in the game. Then Douglas open it up in the second half, outscoring CBI 5 - 1, to take the game 7 - <. This is a reversal of form as it was Douglas that had faded late in the previous games. The hat-trick for Ron Hovey boosted him back into firs! place © the individual scoring statistics for the team. The game sas probably the best played by the team this season. The line of Keith Mackenzie, Ron xovey and Pat Ponti controlled play whenever they were on the ice and had innumerabl2 scoring chances. The line of Ron Ames, Gene Giuricich and Al Lewis also nlaved well, especially in killing penalties, and each scored goal, besides. All in all, it was a tea: =°‘ort and the t2an was full vai for the win. The third game was played on Friaay, Feb. 22 at Aopotsrord -: ana against BCIT Forestry again. BCITF jumped to al - 0 lea: corly ir t game but Douglas roared back to score two goals before tr- “irst perivc € -~ to lead 2- 1. In the second period, BCITF scored the ar:y two goals tc lead 3 - 2 at the end of the period. BCITF scored again mid-way through t-> third period to lead 4 - 2 before Douglas scored agair tc make the firal score 4 - 3 for BCITF. Team Douglas had difficulty adjusting to the aggressive forechecking * the BCITF team and couldn't seem to get their attack untracked. BCITF ha: now moved solidly into first place and seem to be the team to beat in the league and playoff championships.
