Health Source: Nursing /Academic Edition http://search.epnet.com/login.asp?profile=hch&defaultdb=hch Health Source indexes and provides full-text articles from academic nursing publications. This is the best place for nursing students to begin journal research. Proquest Nursing Journals hetp://www.umi.com/pqdauto?COPT=REJTPTE] NDE@ This is another database of nursing journals and some newsmagazines. Most of the articles are in full text, making it another excellent starting point for research. CINAHL http://www.umi.com/pqdauto? COPT=UFJEPTA@ CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is the international database that indexes the largest number of nursing journals. This is the most complete listing of journal articles for research purposes. Medline hetp://www.pubmed.gov Medline is the United States National Library of Medicine's indexing database (it does not include the full text of articles) covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and pre-clinical sciences. Coverage is worldwide of approximately 3,900 journals. Alt-HealthWatch http://search.epnet.com/login.asp?profilesawh&defaultdb=awh Alt-Health Watch indexes and provides full-text articles from alternative health publications. Briefly Woman of Distinction Pat Brown of Early Childhood Education reports that Elva Reid, who retired from the ECE Program three years ago, has been nominated for the YMCA Woman of Distinction Award in Education. The Award winner will be announced at a special dinner at the Bayshore Inn on May 16. Desperately seeking cyclists The Douglas College Foundation’s Heather Scott is looking for cyclists to boost student financial aid ona bicycle built for 10. Participants will be part of the Douglas College team piloting a special 10- rider cycle at the first Vancouver Molson Indy Bike Challenge in Vancouver's False Creek area on July 22 at 6pm. Each participant must raise a minimum of $100 in pledges to be eligible, and can direct the funds towards the scholarship, bursary or College sector of their choice. Playing in Zurich Music instructor Kathryn Cernauskas spent her February spring break in Switzerland and Liechtenstein performing concerts of Canadian music for solo flute and flute plus electro-acoustic music. “This was at the invitation of the International Society for Contemporary Music” she says, “and included the premiere of a new piece written for the occasion by Vancouver composer Barry Truax. The Zurich concert will be broadcast on Swiss Radio on May 29.” Wrong number? New doctor in the house On April 9, Michel A. Tarko, Psychiatric Nursing Instructor, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in the Study of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of British Columbia. The title of his dissertation is A Grounded Theory Study of the Experience of Spirituality Among Persons Living with Schizophrenia. Dr. Tarko will convocate at 1:30pm May 28 at UBC. Congratulations! Wegner speaks at national conference Communications instructor Diana Wegner delivered a presentation on the development and marketing of a municipal management plan at the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing conference in Chicago in March 20. Diana reported on the influence of environmentalist and student access, and transferability of Spoken Communications courses.
