INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / JUNE 19, 1990 Teamwork paying off for B.O.E. and Calis: hat happens when two distinct programs at Douglas College work together on a long term project? Basic Occupational Education and Computer Information Systems are proving it to be a worthwhile and successful endeavor. The two disciplines have developed a plan to manage data more effectively in the Basic Oc- cupational Education Electronic Assembly Program. The team of students and faculty from both departments have completed about a third of their goal. Lu Ozey, faculty in B.O.E. ex- plains, "In the past, we have been faced with a large amount of essen- tial support data," she says, "even- tually we would like to use computer technology to analyze and organize all of this information." As a timesaver, Ray Yu, Facul- ty Advisor for C.I.S. expects the computerized system will really pay off. "Data will be more acces- sible for report writing and general assessment of skills," he says, "this will allow faculty to spend more time with their stu- dents." Record keeping which is now done manually will soon be fully automated. "By December or January, the whole thing will be com- puterized," says Yu. With such a good working rap- port it’s likely that the two programs will continue to work together even beyond completion of the project. "The spirit of cooperation be- tween our two disciplines has been a valuable experience for both parties," says Ozey, "we plan to support each other during the semesters to come." # The C.I1.S/B.0.E.
