Schools which expected students to care for their own resources, had better behaviour. better attendance, and less delinquency. Giving students posts or tasks of responsibility was associated with better pupil behaviour. The findings suggest that there are likely to be benefits in ensuring that a higher proportion of pupils have the opportunity toa hold some kind of post of responsibility. Shared activities between staff and pupils cutside the classroom may help each to appreciate the other better and come to share some of the same goals. As students are able to take responsible roles, and achieve satisfaction fram them, so they may become more likely tea identify with educational objectives.
