Funds For VGH Emergency | Expenditure of an additional $200,000 to prepare a program for a proposed $10 mill- ion emergency facility at Vancouver Gen- eral Hospital has been approved by the GVRD Board. Itis anticipated the completed facility would include a trauma unit, a burns unit and am- bulatory care service. : A year ago the GVRD approved $50,000 to develop plans and cost estimates for the proposed programs. ' The additional $200,000 is to undertake further preliminary work, including studies to determine the project's impact (such as traffic and workload) on the area around VGH, It will also be used for preliminary planning. A steering committee with representatives from the Provincial Government, B.C. Med- ical Centre, the hospital and the GVRD is being established to provide direction for the project on a continuing basis. Hear Appeals. On May 21 The GVRD Board will meet Wednesday, May 21 to hear appeals on lands placed in ‘Secondary reserves’ under the Agricultural Land Reserves legislation. Jn late 1973 the GVRD recommended to the B.C. Land Commission that approxi- mately 30,000 acres in this region — primarily in Delta, Surrey and Richmond — be placed in the ‘secondary reserve’ categ- ory. This was endorsed by the Commis- sion. ‘Secondary reserves’ are lands with good soil but which have important potential uses other than farming or where farming may not be economically practical. The hearing will be held at the Town & Country Motor Inn, Delta, starting at 2.30 p.m. /. $7.6 Million For Housing The GVRD Board at its April meeting ap- proved funds for the construction of two- housing projects, one in Port Coquitlam and the other in North Vancouver City. Cost of the two projects is estimated at $7.6 million. The Port Coquitlam development is ex- pected to be under construction in June and completed a year later. It will consist of 130 townhouses, clustered in small groups, a 72-unit apartment building, day care centre and associated recreational and parking facilities. Estimated cost of the Port Coquitlam pro- ject is $7.2 million, including the cost of the land. The site is located on Coast Meridian Road. “Site preparation and servicing is scheduled to be underway within a month. The North Vancouver City project is located on 1st Street. It will be a small apartment building with 9 one-bedroom units, 6 two- bedroom units and associated facilities. Construction should start within a month and this development is expected to be completed late this year. The cost, includ- ing land, is estimated at $426,000. The GVRD has applied to Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation for loans to finance the projects. They would be 50-year loans, at 8% interest. In both cases a federal grant of 10% of the cost is anticipated. The GVRD housing department has in- itiated a number of other projects in the region in the last year and will be announc- ing additional developments over the next few months.
