INSIDE DOUGLAS COLLEGE / October 16, 1991 THE INSIDE ZONE by Carillon We know you’re busy, but the autumn weather is still beautiful, and the leaves are turning. There are lots of big events happening around the College, but why don’t you take a minute to relax, sit down in the sun, and find out about some of the little things happening around here. For example... When Foundation Director Mark Crozet was looking for a Founda- tion Secretary, he wanted someone who could “take the ball and run with it” and it seems that’s exactly what Debbie McFadyen did during her first shift in her first Futsal (in- door soccer) game. Unfortunately, there seems to be some kind of rule against this. The latest word is that Debbie is thinking of trying out for the women’s rugby team. In the keep them guessing department... A big Happy Birthday to Marilyn Attwood, the PIO Graphic Desig- ner, Yvonne Mostert, Administration Secretary, Admis- sions Clerk Carmen Mahood and Lisa Barone, Personnel Secretary. And, while not wanting to give any- thing away, we do think it’s nifty that Jim Doerr just turned... Lots of kidding around... We think we’re going to have to rename this column the ‘maternity zone’. The Learning Resource Centre is experiencing its own mini ‘baby boom echo’. Librarian Mary Matthews had a son on September 27. Former Technical Services General Assistant Jan Meyers is expecting at the end of October, Technical Services Cataloguing Assistant Charlotte Currie at the beginning of November, and Inter-Library Loan Assistant Shari Hazelwood is expecting in April. And, down in the Child, Family and Community Studies Department, Congratulations to the winners of the first two Foundation 60/40 lotteries, Psychiatric Nursing Instructor Norma Vallentgoed (left) won $68.40, and Program Assistant Evelyn Terada won $158.40. The draw is ongoing, and you too can win a pile of cash. Just call 5360 to get in. The next draw is during the first week of November. Therapeutic Recreation Instructor Dan McDonald wife and his Sonja, have a brand new son, Colin, born October 2. He took a trip on a sailing ship... Director of Facilities Services and all-around sharp-dressed man Terry Leonard is taking off on a one-week cruise in the Caribbean. Does anybody know where he can pick up a three-piece bathing suit? And while we're at it, keep an eye open for a grass skirt for Mark Crozet who is off for some fun and sun in Hawaii. Want to play matchmaker? An aspiring young piper is desperately seeking a set of bag- pipes so he can continue with his lessons. If you know of any lonely bagpipes, please call 596-0970. Thank you, thank you very much... Computer Technician Darryl Karleen would like to thank all the faculty and staff from Office Administration for the wonderful wedding present. Terry Farrell, Chair of Arts and Humanities, would like to thank Terry Leonard, Devona Davies and everyone else in Facilities Services for the great job they did refurbishing the Language Labs. Terry also would like to thank Stagecraft Convenor Drew Young and his crew for all their hard work in completing the riverboat for the benefit dinner for the Fraser River Discovery Centre. The Student Society, College Board and the Public Information Office would like to thank Political Science Instructor Marlene Hancock for the great job she did moderating the three all-can- didate meetings. And finally... Before we leave, we'd like to wish Bookstore Clerk June Ander- son luck in her American Sign Language course. She wants to be able to communicate more effective- ly with deaf students who come into the bookstore, which might make the education experience a little easier for them, which is what a community college is all about. See you in two weeks. Keep those tips coming in by calling 527-5327. @
