Media Watch

Media Watch is a national organization dedi-
cated to improving the images of women in
the mass media. Media Watch was created in
direct response to growing concern over the
increasingly sexist and pornographic por-
trayals of women. The objective of Media
Watch is to act as a facilitator of public
concern through education, government and
industry lobbying, as well as T.V., radio
and advertising monitoring.

On April 1, 1983, Media Watch officially
opened a national office in Vancouver. The
mandate for the next two years is to work
towards the implementation of the recommend-
ations made by the CRTC Task Force on Sex-
Role Stereotyping.

Media Watch has designed easy to use com-

plaint forms for people to register their

criticism. Complaints must be directed to
a specific ad or program with reference to
sex-role stereotyping. The forms are col-
lected by Media Watch and forwarded to the
offending body.

Media Watch forms are available in the
Women's Centre - Room 2720.

Also, anyone who is interested in establish-
ing a Media Watch group in the Women's
Centre, please contact Marian Exmann at

Applications are invited for team coaches

Preference will be given to candidates with
coaching experience. An honorarium will be
paid.

riate name for its new Early Childhood Edu-|

cation Centre.

Proposal of names may be submitted to Don
McEachern with a written rationale attached,

Deadline for submissions will be July 31.

When selecting the name, the following cri-

teria will be considered:

- Is it professional?

- Is it appropriate to the field of Early
Childhood Education?

- Does it reflect standards of quality?

- Is it in harmony. with College Philosophy
and Policies?

- Is it creative, interesting and distinc-
tive?
