. Mad Hatter Page 2 Media Watch Media Watch is a national organization dedi- cated to improving the images of women in the mass media. Media Watch was created in direct response to growing concern over the increasingly sexist and pornographic por- trayals of women. The objective of Media Watch is to act as a facilitator of public concern through education, government and industry lobbying, as well as T.V., radio and advertising monitoring. On April 1, 1983, Media Watch officially opened a national office in Vancouver. The mandate for the next two years is to work towards the implementation of the recommend- ations made by the CRTC Task Force on Sex- Role Stereotyping. Media Watch has designed easy to use com- plaint forms for people to register their criticism. Complaints must be directed to a specific ad or program with reference to sex-role stereotyping. The forms are col- lected by Media Watch and forwarded to the offending body. Media Watch forms are available in the Women's Centre - Room 2720. Also, anyone who is interested in establish- ing a Media Watch group in the Women's Centre, please contact Marian Exmann at local 2722. oa 71 try and Treasury Board.
