The > Mad Hatter A Douglas College Newsletter DOUGLAS COLLEGE LIBRA RY ARCHIVES Thursday, May 14, 1981 TO: ALL DOUGLAS COLLEGE PERSONNEL FROM: BILL DAY Until our governance structure is in place, and able to assume duties of curriculum assessment and approval for the college, I am requesting the Deans to constitute an Interim Curriculum Coordinating and Approvals Canmittee. The Committee of the four Deans will be chaired by Gerry DellaMattia, and will keep re- cords of its transactions that will be passed on to the future college-wide structure governing this area. Therefore, all curriculum documents intended for implementation will be transmitted to cil = BC The 1981 Convention and AGM of the C-IEA is being held this year in Vancouver at the Holiday Inn Hotel on Broadway, May 21, 22 and 23. Although the program is designed primarily for faculty members, we have set aside Friday morning for a number of events that will be of interest to faculty, administrators and Board members. The Friday morning program consists of: A panel discussion on the topic of “Evaluation for Faculty, Administration and College Boards" with representatives from each group. Three workshop sessions: Faculty Managed Evaluation Systems, with resource people fram Douglas College, B.C.I.T. and Selkirk College. Retirement Options with resource people from Douglas, Langara, BCIF along with Jim Reid, Superannuation Commissioner. Literacy in Education with resource people from CNC, OLI and others not yet confimmed. 1:15 - 1:45 pm - Guest speaker: Dr. Barry Moore, Principal of Fraser Valley College will address the general topic of "WOMEN IN THE COLLEGE SYSTEM" this committee via the appropriate dean. The committee will assess all documentat- ion in the light of past practice, col- lege philosophy, and policy, as well as for inherent quality of preparation. The committee will have the rights of approval and rejection with commentary. Approved materials will be sent on to my- self for signature indicating approval at the college-wide level. This structure is intended to operate only as-a responsible and accountable interim mechanism. All decisions made by this mechanism will be subject to review by the permanent structures of the college. The cost of the Friday morming session and lunch is $20.00.
