By Stephanie Tremath Life and Style Editor In previous time’s uses of color, weaponry, fighting style, and native dress distinguished soldiers from differing countries; even mercenary fighters would develop their own sense of style to set themselves apart from the troops manning the front line. A military uniform would imply the status, rank and wealth of the individual soldier or country. In the past military clothes represented a culture and ideals, while society today has created an army of well- bred warriors dressed up for no cause. Canvas greens, structured shoulders, studded belts, and heavy eye-liner probably weren’t worn in Flanders’s Field; however, the designer military madness began last year when Sienna Miller was seen wearing combat boots over opaque tights. Notorious trendsetter Kate Moss also sported a pair of tomboy oxford flats and denim shorts with uch alike the troops we sent to invade Afghanistan dressed in camouflage cargo pants, fall fashion designs emulate the heavy battalion boots and gaudy buttoned jackets soldiers have been wearing for centuries. When paired with a lace shirt or romantic jewelry, the distinct uniform for battle has been re-shaped into something we call “fashionable” and is making way on the runway this season. Military dress has been cultured over centuries to represent groups of armed forces from various nations; a distinct and powerful use of identification, military style was once used to represent an organized central authority, but has been undermined to symbolize the current standard for fashion. a fitted black military style jacket; festooned with gold buttons and large lapels. Back in the 1980’s Michael Jackson set the stage on fire with his military style jackets; bright red with silver sequins, and white with high shoulder pads. Today the style of jacket is more casual in comfy greens and camel browns or dressy in dark navy and blacks. The best way to keep your femininity, and not appear as if you belong in the Navy, is to mix delicate pieces with bold accessories. Ankle boots with tights and a skirt add a flirty edge when paired with a military jacket, and combat boots look especially chic when paired with a romantic style dress and blazer. Invest in one solid piece for this season, but be careful of spending too much money as trendy pieces are often worn for a few seasons and then discarded. Check out H&M for cheaper clothing deals. The best time of the year to shop is during sale season, which unfortunately means that everything you buy runs the risk of being ridiculous come next season; especially if you purchased a floral rhomper or pair of harem pants. The more stylish pieces are certainly appealing, especially at half off, but in the long run pieces that are more versatile will give you the best deal for you money.
