Douglas College basketball teams lost four games to the College of New Calendonia on the weekend. by Greg Heakes — Most people feel that Friday, the 13th, is a one day affair that should be filed away early. But for the men’s Basketball team, the fateful day haunted them throughout their stay in Prince George. Friday Feb. 13, the Col- lege of New Calendonia bombed Douglas 107-47 and Saturday Feb. 14, they beat them again with a 113-52 score. ““We were totally out- classed,’’ said Douglas coach Dan Moore, ‘‘they were much bigger and were able to substitute new legs.”’ ‘We can still finish in the piayoffs, but every game is a must win. Realistically, we have to start building for next year. DeAnna, the league leader, also ad- ded 22 rebounds. Douglas played well in thefirst half of Saturdays . game, and lead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. But CNC came back to lead 46-30 at halftime. They eventually outscored Douglas by a _ whopping 67-22 in the second -half. Friday’s game went sour for Douglas after four of their five starters fouled out. Peter Julian, Warren ‘Meneghello, Dennis Milne and Mike Elliott accumu- lated the maximum five fouls each. “It was the most lopsided refereeing we've ever seen, - and even the other team agreed,’’ said Maneghello. ‘They still would have beat us but the refereeing made it such a lopsided affair.’’ . / The men’s basketball team recently lost the ser- _. Meanwhile, Douglas’ women’s team were also soundly defeated by New Calandonia, 92-38 Friday, and 86-32 Saturday. “Tt was the Valentines day massacre,’’ stated Dou- glas coach Mike Dendy’s. Our whole problem this year is that we don’t break presses properly and con- sequently, alot of teams use a press on us.”’ I thought our best game was the second one because we played tough defence.’’ Wendy Ellis lead the Douglas team in _ scoring with 12 pts in the first game' and 18 in the second. ; This weekend the men’s and women’s teams play V.C.C., Friday at Langara, Capilano, Saturday, and ‘Kelowna on Sunday with both games being played at’ Queen Elizabeth school in Surrey.
