Athletics Continued:

Badminton

Robin Ryan, a name synonymous with
badminton at Douglas, will be coach-
ing our team. Look for a lot of
home competitions as we show off our
eight court facility to the rest of
the lower mainland.

Golf and Curling

Gert Van Niekerk, whose teams did so
well last year, (2 silver medals),
is again masterminding the golf and
curling teams.

Competition is always keen in these
sports and thanks to Gert (who vol-
unteers his time), Douglas students
have the opportunity to participate
in these activities.

Men's Volleyball

Ross Dunning will be the men's
volleyball coach for this year and
like the women, there is a lot of
room for improvement.

The first tournament is November 24
at B.C.I.T. and I wish both teams
the best of luck.

In closing, I would like to give a
very large verbal bouquet to Bob
Corbett for the part he played in
the selection of coaches for this
year.

One of the most important jobs I have
is to select the best person to
coach our students; (my theory being
that a poor coach is worse than no
coach) and Bob is definately excell-
ent at finding the markers along

the route. Thanks Bob!

This is it! The beginner's fitness
program for you! If you haven't
exercised in years or may be have
never exercised this is an excellent
introduction to aerobic fitness.
There will be a slow and steady in-
crease in intensity of the exercises).
Qualified instructors will guide you
through this six week program with
mini-discussions and handouts on
related fitness topics. Don't miss
it! Starts September 10 and meets
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Cost is $50.00 non-members and
$10.00 members.

TODDLER PLAYTIME!

Work with your child to increase
flexibility, balance, co-ordination,
and body awareness. A variety of
movement themes will be explored
using small and large apparatus.

An excellent opportunity for the
children to socialize as they learn.
Parent participation.
