Tuesday, September 16, 1986 12 P.M. - Minute of Silence 12.01 p.m. - Moment of Sound On this day, The International Day of Peace, the General Assembly of the United Nations will ring the UN Peace Bell inviting peoples of the world to join with the delegates in a minute of silent contemplation and rededication. WHERE : HOW: Wherever you are at 12 Noon, Tuesday, Sept. 16, at work, at school, at home, in a restaurant, in your car (pull over,pause, then honk), or in open spaces where people congregate... Church bells will ring out across the city. And you will be joined by the citizens of London,England; Assissi, Italy; San Francisco, U.S.A.; and Geneva, Switzerland, who have also proclaimed the observance of this minute of silence on this day. You and everyone who cares about Peace in our World For many of us, images of nuclear holocaust lurk in the corners of our minds, evoking feelings of being hopeless, helpless, and alone. This event offers us a symbolic focus to make us aware of our power and connectedness. As we observe the UN International Day of Peace with other peoples around the world, we MAKE VISIBLE our own will for Peace which in spite of all our diverse interests and beliefs unites us all.
