TO: DOUGLAS COLLEGE BOARD February 21, 1985. I would remind the Board that this Spring there has been a growing amount of high quality cultural activity in the College, that demonstrates the continuing commitment of faculty and staff across all our divisions to the concept of Douglas College as a cultural, as well as an academic and training centre for our communities. An example of this trend is the recent emergence of a Humanities Institute, sponsored by faculty members, that is scheduling a stimulating array of lectures, debates and films for the College and general community. I am informed that our Women's Basketball team is now ranked 9th in the cross-Canada Intercollegiate Basketball Conference. We now have three teams in the "top 10" cross-country - again, an indication of the con- tinuing vitality of Douglas College on all fronts. I am sorry to inform the Board of the death of one of the founding admini- strators of the College, Mr. David Peterkin, who served the College from 1970 to 1982. He will be remembered with affection by us all. The College was also saddened by the sudden death of Don Radstaak, an instructor in Adult Basic Education. Initially, Don came to us through the Lakeside program. A memorial bursary has been established by his colleagues. ee ————— DOUGLAS COLLEGE WLD/gb | ARCHIVES
