MAD HATTER PAGE 2 SILVERMAN CONCERT Robert Silverman, one of Canada's premier musicians, has been hailed by critics around the world as an accomplished pianist with vision, genius, and a commanding stage presence. Douglas College is proud to announce that Silverman will display his mastery of the keyboard at the College Theatre, November 22. The Scholarship Concert will showcase this great Canadian performer's talents starting at 8:00 p.m. The performance at Douglas College follows Silverman's successful tours of Europe, the Far East, the Soviet Union, as well as North and South America. Silverman lives in Vancouver. Born in Montreal, he appeared in his first recital at age five, before making his official debut with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. He went on to win the Canadian Music Competition and placed second in the CBC Talent Competition. Receiving his B.A. in Humanities, he studied for two years in Vienna to complement his training. Finishing his education in North America, Silverman's story has since been a steady climb to the top. He was Grand Prize winner of the Concours Jeunesses Musicales and was immediately engaged to perform at Expo in 1967. Silverman has made dozens of recordings, with his Orion recording of music by Liszt capturing the Grand Prix du Disque in 1977. In 1978 he played an extraordinary series of open air concerts at Lincoln Centre, New York. From New York to Hong Kong, critics have acclaimed Silverman as a superb pianist. His native Montreal paper called him "One. of the most accomplished musicians" the city has ever produced, and New York reviewers said he "Held his audience spell-bound at the Kaufman Concert Hall with his interpre- tive skill."
