@ www.theotherpress.ca Royals Roundup By Josh Martin, Sports Editor Volleyball The women’s volleyball team lost back- to-back games against the Capilano University Blues this past weekend, both in 3-0 affairs. They finish their season in sixth place in the standings with a 3-21 record in 24 matches played with six points. The men’s volleyball team had back- to-back wins against the Blues this past Friday and Saturday, with both matches resulting in 3-0 victories. They finish their regular season off sitting in second place in the standings with a 19-5 record in 24 matches and 38 points. Douglas College will host the PacWest Volleyball Championships this week from Thursday February 23 to Saturday February 25. The women’s volleyball squad starts action in the quarterfinals on Thursday with the CBC Bearcats and the Camosun Chargers rounding out the qualifying teams while the men’s team has a bye right into the semi-finals on Friday. Games start with quarterfinals on Thursday and semi-finals on Friday at 1 p-m.,3 p.m, 6 p.m,, and 8 p.m. Saturday features the women’s and men’s bronze games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with the women’s final shortly after at 5:30 p.m.,, along with the men’s final at 8 p.m. Come support your Royals! Free admission! Basketball The men’s basketball team came out with a huge win this past weekend against the CBC Bearcats in a 95-83 decision to Sports wrap up the regular season. With that win they clinched the final sixth spot in the standings with a 7-9 record and 14 points in 16 games. They will be making their way to Capilano for the PacWest playoffs on March 1. The women’s basketball team did not qualify for the playoffs this season, but did finish their year off on a high note with a 65-59 win against the CBC Bearcats on Saturday.
