Anthropology and Sociology Chair Marni Westerman presented her paper, 7émpered Radicals and Porous Boundaries: The Complexities of Anti Harassment Work at Canadian Universities, at the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences held in Vancouver in June. Sociology instructor Alison Thomas also presented a report at the Congress with co-writer, University of the Fraser Valley professor Elizabeth Dennis, examining how gender and family work are portrayed in greeting cards. Bob Browne, Faculty Emeritus, Science and Technology, attended the annual College Chemistry Canada conference in Edmonton in May. Browne presented his paper A Simple Mechanical Kinetic Theory Demonstration. Afterwards, he went on to the Canadian Society for Chemistry conference, also in Edmonton, where he was surprised to meet a former Douglas Chemistry student, Richard Popoff. Popoff is currently working on a Master's degree in chemistry at SFU and was discussing his research, on display in a poster session, when Browne ran into him.
