PvE Ror WAR OC Nag age whe Sk CHECK IT OUT: LETTITOR New faces and times at the OP Garth McLennan Editor in Chief hen I was set to sit down and write this article, my first ever “Lettitor” as the new editor-in-chief of The Other Press, I went to write my name at the top like I have for every article I’ve written for this paper. However, right off the bat, I messed up. Instead of ‘editor’ beside my name as I was supposed to write, I instead put the much more familiar ‘sports editor’. That should say enough right there that while I’m very excited to be taking the reigns of a paper that I’ve cared deeply about for almost three years now, I’m still a little nervous to be taking the big job (understandably, I hope). After all, I’m replacing the esteemed Liam Britton, someone I’ve considered a close friend for years now. Liam and I started at the OP right around the same time, and less than one week into my tenure as editor-in-chief; it’s already very strange not having him around. He leaves behind a pair of very big shoes to fill, and by the time I leave this place for good I know that I'll be lucky to be half the editor he was. To put it simply, Liam was an excellent editor whose end goal was making the paper you’re holding in your hands better for you, the reader and the student of Douglas College. He was a good friend and you couldn’t ask for a better boss. I can assure you that I’Il do my very best to uphold and continue the high standards he set. This is a time of big change for your friendly neighbourhood student newspaper. Josh Martin, a great kid fresh out of NWSS high school, is taking over for me in sports, and I have full confidence that he’ll blow me out of the water. Angela Espinoza, a long time contributor who makes our paper better every issue, is our first ever arts reporter while Cody Klyne is replacing long time editor Jay Schreiber as the head of the arts section. With Cody and Angela, you couldn’t ask for two better writers to take care of arts and entertainment. We also have Maria Asselin-Roy assuming the duties of staff reporter in the news section with the departure of Tanya Colledge. She’s another bright young writer that should do great things here. There are still some familiar faces sticking around for the upcoming semester, not the least of which is my current assistant editor Chloe Bach, who I already know will save my bacon more than once while I’m doing this job. With the start of a new year at Douglas, this couldn’t be a better time for you to pick up and get involved in our newspaper. We welcome anyone who wants to be a part of The Other Press, and if you getting involved isn’t something you can do right now, please continue to pick up the paper, we’re always there.
