Can thinking be taught? < Find out at a discussion of Edward de Bono's CORT thinking activities: THURSDAY NOVEMBER 26 ROOM 3408 12:00 - 1:30 Edward de Bono is considered by many to be the leading authority in the world on the direct teaching of thinking. His thinking techniques are widely used in many countries in a variety of educational and business settings. Best known as the inventor of the term ‘lateral thinking’, he has campaigned globally for an increased awareness of the value of learning strategies for creative thinking and problem-solving. Last May, a presentation given by de Bono to the ACCC conference in Hamilton was received by telecast at the college and many in the audience expressed considerable interest in learning more about de Bono's approach to teaching thinking, especially his CORT Thinking Program. CORT is a program containing 60 thinking skills that de Bono argues can be applied to all subject areas at any level. It is a bold claim that is worth exploring. On Thursday, November 26 several instructors will lead a discussion of CORT, its aims, its uses, its benefits and its weaknesses. The intention is to have a lively exchange of views and experiences regarding CORT and de Bono's approach to teaching thinking. O Anyone who wishes to learn more about the practical application of de Bono's ideas in a college setting is invited to attend. fe
