External Matters - Municipal On March 24, I was invited to the public tabling of the Coquitlam Economic Profile, by the Chambers of Commerce of Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Port Moody. Representation from Douglas College Was requested, in order that formal recognition could be given to the contribution by Douglas administration, faculty and students in the research and data analysis involved. The Royal City Community Development Association is making final adjustments to the proposed economic plan for the City of New Westminster with the help of Douglas College students, faculty and administration. Work continues with the Business Council of British Columbia, in identifying linkages between the employing community, and the post secondary training institutions on the Lower Mainland. I have been named as Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee linking the two fields, with Mr. Gerry Franciscovich, President of Chevron Canada, acting as Chairman. Currently I am chairing a subcommittee involving faculty members from Capilano, BCIT, and Vancouver Community College, together with representatives of CEIC and the Vancouver Economic Development Commission, jin preparing a survey of Lower Mainland businesses regarding employment trends and manpower needs over the next five years. B. External Matters - Education On April 1st, Gordon Gilgan, Tad Hosoi, Al Atkinson, and I attended an international education meeting in Vancouver, at which time we met delegates from 50 Japanese educational institutions who are interested in furthering relationships in Canada. On April 3rd and 4th, the Council of Principals met with their colleagues in Alberta at Edmonton, in order to discuss the Canadian Jobs Strategy and its implications for community colleges, and the overall financial situation facing post secondary education. «ht
