October 1, 2003 From The Editor When I took this position I was excited. I love to write, edit, and work with a team of people who are just as dedicated as I am to the quality of this paper. Some onlookers have comment- ed that I’m not doing my job by allowing peo- ple to print their ideas, thoughts, and opinions. I have to make it clear that the students run this paper. Our team multitasks between work- ing on the paper, attending classes, and occa- sionally seeing our families and sleeping. We work hard everyday to entertain, educate, and inform you. Every person in our readership is reached in a different way. This weeks mailbag features a letter by a reader who is less than impressed by the con- tent of our paper. The letter encourages me to censor Mr. McCullough’s articles because they feature a political perspective the reader doesn’t agree with. The letter further suggests that because we're a school in Canada, we shouldn't focus on foreign politics. He claims that we, as students, are not interested. I beg to differ. This reader asks why our publication isn’t ral- lying around life changing issues and I have to ask, why aren't you? The Other Press is always looking for new writers to get involved and tackle important issues. Lastly, the letter sug- gests that Mr. McCullough’s article wasn’t thought provoking. This is an ironic statement since this reader was sufficiently provoked by the articles content to write the letter I’m now discussing. This issue is packed with thrilling news sto- ries, but I regret to inform you that our allstar news editor Sara James has decided to retire from her position. This leaves an opening for anyone who dares to dream that they could fill her shoes. Sadly, we also say goodbye to Kim Meier—photographer extraordinaire and Odin Zavier—advertising guru. Be a part of the Other Press and help me fight the fires. It’s a jungle in here and we are all animals but it’s swell, I promise.
