To meet the learning needs of students in their region, Northwest has recently introduced an innovative way of delivering basic-level training to students in their work settings. The current group of ECE students work in approximately 25 communities across the college region. This emergent approach to the curriculum involves the students in community development activities, intercultural work and literacy experiences which are unique to the children and families of each community. “The Northwest ECE team shared many interesting and creative techniques for facilitating student learning in the context of the child care setting,” says Brown. “This information sharing opportunity provoked stimulating discussions and helped us to generate ideas for enriching our own teaching.
